Full Time Corrections Deputy

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is hiring an entry level Corrections Deputy. This is a full time certified position assigned to work as a Deputy in the Union County Jail located in La Grande, Oregon.

This position is assigned to alternating day shift and night shifts with rotations occurring every 4 months. This position works 12 hour shifts on a 4 day on, 4 day off basis.

Pay:   $19.81 to $24.08 hourly DOE. $3,434.00 to $4,4174.00 monthly DOE.

Incentive Pay:

6% added to base salary for possession of a Bachelor’s Degree.

4% added to base salary for possession of an Associate’s Degree.

5% added to base salary for possession of a DPSST Intermediate Certificate.

8% added to base salary for possession of a DPSST Advanced Certificate.

Comp Hours: 111 Hours

Holiday Leave: 80 Hours

Vacation Hours: 96 Hours

Position Requirements:

  • The Sheriff’s Office Requires the Following Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 21 years of age by the time of certification
  • Must be a United States citizen or be one within eighteen (18) months of hire.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate of high school equivalency.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record and the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation.
  • Must pass an extensive post-offer, pre-employment physical assessment and psychological evaluation. Accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation.
  • Must successfully pass a post offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be willing to be fingerprinted and have fingerprints filed with the State.
  • Must be able to be certified by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
  • Must meet the Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer as provided for in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) 259-008-0010.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with public safety experience/training.

After the closing date applicants will be contacted and given a date for a written exam at the Sheriff’s Office. This test will be in person and social distancing guidelines and precautions will be in place. If attending the testing day will be an issue then the online NTN testing is an acceptable alternative. Non-attendance at your assigned exam date/time will remove candidates from consideration for the position.

Reserve Corrections Deputy

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applications for Reserve Corrections Deputies. Reserve Corrections Deputies perform a wide range of functions within the Sheriff’s Office ranging from courtroom security, inmate transports, and working assignments within the Correctional Facility.

This position carries with it a highly flexible schedule based off of the Reserve Deputies availability making this job great for entry level employees seeking to gain experience in the criminal justice system, retired or previous law enforcement or correctional employees, or those seeking additional employment that will work around their hours.

This is a paid position and is compensated between $18.00 and $20.00 an hour depending on experience.
